YiShow Explorer's Question And Answer
1. When using YiShow on NR-series' CLIE, the screen will become abnormal after I return to YiShow from the launched program, Why?
As YiShow already support the NR-series' Hi resolution natively, you should not turn on the Hi-res support with Hires Assist in the preference setup. If you're using Hi-res emulation program such as SwitchDash, please add YiShow to the exclude list.
2. When using YiShow on NR-series' CLIE, how can I use Full Screen mode?
Starting from version 4.2, YiShow natively supports the Hi-res on NR-series' CLIE. To turn on the Full Screen mode, please tap the little "blue arrow" at the bottom of the screen to hide the Virtual Graffiti area.
3. When launching YiShow Explorer v4.1 on NR-series' CLIE, a Fatal Error occurs, Why?
YiShow v4.1 doesn't support NR-series' CLIE, please upgrade your YiShow to v4.2 or above.
4. I want to setup wallpaper in YiShow, how to do that?
To Setup wallpaper in YiShow, you have to keep the following points in mind:
- Please use version 4.0 or above in order to use wallpaper.
- To setup wallpaper on device having screen resolution of 320x320, please use uncompressed 256-color's BMP image with size of 320x320 pixels.
- To setup wallpaper on device having screen resolution of 320x480, please use uncompressed 256-color's BMP image with size of 320x480 pixels.
After you have prepare the image, please follow the steps to utilize it with YiShow:
- You can use CLIE's MS Import, or any MS writer to transfer the BMP image onto the MS.
- In YiShow Explorer, move to the directory that storing the BMP.
- If you're in "Detail listing" mode, please select the image and tap Menu->Options->Set BackImage. On the other hand, you can click the small icon of the BMP image and tap "BackImage" on the pop-up command window.
- If you're in "Icon" mode, please drag the icon to the "Show" button, and tap "BackImage" on the pop-up command window.
5. The image distorted very badly after I set it to background wallpaper, why?
When image is set to wallpaper, the image's palette will be distilled to PalmOS's default palette. As a result, image that originally contains vivid colors will be distorted due to the limited color available in the PalmOS's default palette. In order to achieve better result, you may have to pre-process the image on your computer first, the following shows some one way to do it with PaintShopPro:
- Firstly, you have to resize the original image to 320x320 or 320x480, depending on your device.
- Secondly, reduce the color space to only 256-color. Click Menu->Colors>Decrease>256 Color. From the reduce color's dialogue, select "Standard/Web-safe" in the Palette section and "Error diffusion" in the Reduction method section.
- Finally, save the image into BMP format.
6. It is easier to manipulate file in Detail Listing mode, can I have similar functionalities in Icon mode?
In Detail Listing mode, you can select file that you want to process and then tap the action in menu. It's very convenience. In addition, you can click the small icon and manipulate it from the pop-up command window.
Nonetheless, you can achieve the same operation in Icon mode as easy as Detail Listing mode with:
- Drag the icon to the "Show" button, from the pop-up command window, select the action you want; or
- Turn the Jog dial button to select the icon and then press it extensively, the pop-up command window will be shown.
7. I have pressed the Jog Dial button extensively, but the pop-up command window doesn't shown, why?
If you're using PowerJOG, please turn it off.
8. When I want to execute program, or view DOC/Image that storing in MS, I have to switch YiShow to display MS first and then select the corresponding directory. It's quite troublesome to do so. Is there any way I can do these like I operate file storing in internal RAM?
YiShow supports "Shortcut". You can not only create Short-cut for program, but also for DOC files, Images, etc that YiShow supports. Those created Short-cuts are as convenience as file storing in internal RAM.
To create Short-cut, use the method described in Question 6, choose "ShortCut" in either menu or pop-up command window to achieve the creation. Please note that, Short-cut will be automatically categorized into "ShortCut" category.
9. I have some files that I don't want other people to see it. Is there a way to hide these files?
YiShow has the ability to hide program, DOC file and image file. You can just hide the files that storing in internal RAM by setting its attribute to "Hide". You can hide directory too with the same method.
In order to hide a file/directory, just set it's attribute to "Hidden" and depends on the level of security set in the "Security" screen. File that can be hidden includes all types of file storing in MS and DOC, PGP, Short-cut file storing in RAM. If you want to hide program storing in RAM, just move it to MS and create a short-cut for it, then hide the short-cut.
For those file/directory that are set to "Hide", there're three levels of security available and can be changed by CLIE's Secuirty setting.
- When Security is set to "Show Records", even the file is set to "Hidden", the file will be shown normally.
- When Security is set to "Mask Records", the file will be shown but cannot executed.
- When Security is set to "Hide Records", file will not be shown nor executable.
10. It's inconvenient that YiShow's Category and the build-in Launcher's Category are different, is there any better way to solve it?
To edit each icon's category in YiShow is very easy and fast. Beside tapping "Edit Category" in menu's option, you can also drag the icon directly onto the "Category" button and change the icon's category from the pop-up window.
11. Is Jog Dial only able to scroll one icon at a time?
You can press down the Jog Dial Button and then scroll it, by this way you can change the view page by page.
12. When I use wallpaper in YiShow, I found that some icon's background becoming white. This will damage the beauty of the screen, why?
This is due to the icon image's background is not transparent. You can use program such as "AppIcon" or "RsrcEdit" to make it transparent.
